Election Day / Live 2020

Mood Music |

Jack White Trio | "Don't Hurt Yourself, Ball n Biscuit, Jesus is Coming" |

The medley of songs was fueled by a rock'n and powerful three-piece. Jack White reminded everyone why live music is so infectious. Make no mistake, live music is something we long for, it's vital to our souls.

His squealing guitar was an onslaught of arrows, every squall piercing with inflection. The drummer added force and measure, remaining constant and attached to White's timings. Bass players do as bass players do, their job, holding it down, yet full of capacity. Their collective sound was minimal yet cavernous and banging. Though there were abrasive elements, welcomed by this listener, it was approachable, understandable.

The lyrical change-ups during "Jesus..." were dutifully scripted for the here and now. Different segments showcased the band's abilities, energy, timing, power and emotion. Raw, dripping in talent and hard work, shredding, they were just what I needed. Thanks Jack White. Long Live Live Music.

They're Back! Well, they've been back, but now there's fresh material to consume, "Call the Police" & "American Dream." Eagerly awaiting their upcoming LP? Tune in this Saturday, May 6th, to become fully baited. LCD Soundsystem will be performing on SNL. Thanks LCD. They played the previously mentioned titles and a track called, "Tonight," during their residency in Brooklyn.

Call To Arms

Sturgill Simpson is American. The shit you're about to view is real. It's also fiery and raw. It feels and sounds angry, full of energy, almost scolding us. He's keeping an eye on the state of fecky-ness, seemingly seeping out of everywhere these days. If this doesn't stir you up or get you going..? Watch him and his band rip it up and throw it down (literally) on SNL.

Purple Medley

Prince took over Saturday Night Live this past weekend with host Chris Rock. Instead of playing two performances, as is typically done, Prince was given roughly 8 minutes to do his thing. Initially he played keys while sharing vocals on "Clouds." Quickly the mood turned to a more rock driven sound as Prince took up his guitar. He and 3rdEyeGirl charged through "Plectrum Electrum" and "Marz." The last track, "Another Love," was a blend of R&B and rock. Enjoy.
