It's Winter Somewhere

I'm left to hope, but will always believe, that winter is somewhere—it's just that the flakes don't land where I live. As California deals with a prolonged drought, as well as, the height of wild fire season, I felt the need for some solid precipitation. By the way, firefighters are bad asses and I wish them all the best. The video below is a friendly reminder to enjoy what nature allows. It's winter somewhere.

Winter X is coming!

Filming for Real Snow, Winter X Games
Only the first to do so are remembered. David Wise and the other insanely gifted athletes of the super-pipe are stoked to drop jaws. From January 23-26, Aspen will play host to those that go big. I know that the Olympics are soon to follow, but damn if the X Games don't get the first word. After the super-pipe, real snow is one of my favorite events. Athletes get to film themselves on their home terrain doing what they do best on the daily. Peep their amazing videos here. Big ups to the extraordinary athletes who truly push the envelope. Those of us on the left coast are dying for snow. To the shredders who actually have powder, thanks for inspiring. If the snow doesn't fly, you should. In the meantime, check out Deja Vu to get your wintry fix.

spring winter

... Tahoe was heavenly

between march 18th-23rd, i experienced some of the best snow days ever at tahoe. it was the epitome of a spring winter. heavenly was epic. the amount of snow was stupid & to top it all off, my mom turned 50! it was an especially magical day on the 22nd. my mom, wife, andrew & i got up early & crushed a full day of skiing. it embodied the mantra of 'living each day to its fullest'. to shred the mountain with my family was too much. that was my mom's birthday too, so heavenly couldn't have been better. both the nevada & california sides had great powder & minimal traffic. fresh runs could & were found late into the afternoon. agent M (my wife) had an exhilarating adventure. during one juncture of the day she chose to go with a 30-40 minute back country line. i was so stoked on that.
whether it was chilling at the rental, eating good food, drinking tasty beverages, hanging in south lake or skiing the mountain, last week was memorable. what a way to celebrate. thanks to all those who made the effort to get there & to the one who made it happen... you know who you are. happy birthday mom!

tahoe

the days are dwindling in this winter ski season. however, those of us who love to ski, will probably wish that there had been one more outing. tahoe was gorgeous, even if the snow grew sticky by the noon sun. hit your favorite resort, local mountain or nearest back country location and send winter off in style. enjoy!
